2022 NFL Draft: 16 First Round Fun Facts

1. When the Jacksonville Jaguars pick #1, it will be the 32nd first round pick in Jaguars’ franchise history – 22 of them have been in the top 10. Including 2022, 14 of their last 15 first round picks* have been in the top 10 (since 2008).

*Excludes 2020 #20 pick K’Lavon Chaison and 2021 #24 pick Travis Etienne, who were both drafted with picks acquired from LA Rams.

2. Houston Texans have had just 1 first round pick in the previous 4 drafts – OT Tytus Howard #23 in 2019. 2018 pick was traded as part of a draft day trade for Deshaun Watson in 2017 and their 2020-2021 picks belonged to Dolphins as part of 2019 off-season trade for Laremy Tunsil.

3. New York Jets have picked in the top 10 with 5 of their last 8 first round picks (all 5 picks in the top 6).

4. Between 2012 and 2021, New York Giants have used 8 of their last 11 first rounders on the offensive side of the ball – quarterback (Daniel Jones), 2 running backs (Saquon Barkley and David Wilson), 2 wide receivers (Odell Beckham Jr, Kadarius Toney), tight end (Evan Engram), 2 offensive tackles (Andrew Thomas and Ereck Flowers)

5. Washington has used 5 of their last last 6 first round picks have been used on defensive players.

6. Baltimore Ravens pick #14. It’s their first time picking in the teens since 2017 (drafted CB Marlon Humphrey #16).

7. Philadelphia Eagles, who have a need at wide receiver, have drafted a WR with 3 of their last 6 first round picks (DeVonta Smith 2021, Jalen Raegor 2020, Nelson Agholor 2015).

8. Since 2007, 11 of the Dallas Cowboys’ 14 first round picks (and 7 of their last 8) have made at least one Pro Bowl.

9. Tampa Bay Bucs have sent 3 of their last 4 first round picks to the Pro Bowl – Vita Vea (2018), Devin White (2019), Tristan Wirfs (2020). Will 2021 pick Joe Tryon or 2022 #27 pick be next?

10. Since 2006, 13 of the Green Bay Packers‘ last 16 picks have been defense. The 3 offensive players include QB Jordan Love (2020), OL Derek Sherrod (2010) and Bryan Bullaga (2011).

11. Miami Dolphins love SEC football. 7 of their last 11 first round picks played college football in the SEC – Ja’Wuan James (Tennessee), Laremy Tunsil (Ole Miss), Charles Harris (Missouri), Minkah Fitzpatrick (Alabama), Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama), Noah Igbinoghene (Auburn), Jaylen Waddle (Alabama).

12. Kansas City Chiefs have only used 2 first round picks since 2016 – Patrick Mahomes (2017) and Clyde Edwards-Helaire (2020).

13. Cincinnati Bengals, #31, have their latest first round pick ever (previously #28 in 1984). Cincy has taken offensive players in 5 straight first rounds and 6 of 7 overall. This includes 3 offensive linemen (Jonah Williams 2019, Billy Price 2018, Cedric Ogbuehi 2015), which remains a position of need in 2022.

14. Assuming the Detroit Lions keep the 32nd pick,, it will be their third time picking in the 30s. Both previous times, they drafted a running back – Kevin Jones in 2004 and Jahvid Best in 2010.

15. Cowboys (1989), New Orleans Saints (1971), and Seattle Seahawks (1993) have the 3 longest droughts drafting a QB in round 1. The latter two a strong possibility to snap their streaks in 2022.

16. Super Bowl champion LA Rams have not picked in the first round since 2016 (Jared Goff #1).
