College Football Week 5 Picks and Preview

Top 5 Games of the Week:

  • Utah vs Washington State
  • Notre Dame vs Virginia
  • USC vs Washington
  • Kansas State vs Oklahoma St
  • Arizona St vs Cal

BIG TEN

Ohio State vs Nebraska

College Gameday will be in Lincoln, NE on Saturday. Why? The Huskers are the most over-hyped, overrated team in many years. Huskers came into the season ranked despite back-to-back 4 wins seasons. ESPN decided long ago that this was their ABC Primetime game and they are going to do all the Gameday hoopla at Nebraska. Huskers lost to Colorado week 2 and almost lost (should have lost) to Illinois last week.

Buckeyes are 6-1 vs Nebraska all-time. They won two meetings in 1955-1956 and have won 4 of 5 Big Ten meetings since 2011. In Ohio State’s four Big Ten wins they have scored 63, 62, 56, and 36 points, respectively. Last year’s score (36-31) was scary for Ohio State, who ended up hanging on late.

Michigan vs Rutgers – In Rutgers first Big Ten season, and first ever B1G game on 10/4/2014, the Scarlet Knights beat Brady Hoke’s Wolverines. In 2016, Michigan won by a ridiculous final of 78-0.

Penn State vs Maryland – Penn State plays their first ever week night game. They are 39-2 all-time vs the Terps

ACC

Pitt vs Delaware – the Flacco Bowl!

Flacco started his career at Pittsburgh, but only threw 4 passes as a redshirt freshman in 2004. He left and transferred to Delaware. Flacco led Delaware to an 8-3 season in 2007 and they lost to Appalachian State in the FCS Championship game. He won several awards and broke nearly dozen school records.

Clemson vs UNC – First meeting between teams since 2015 ACC Championship Game.

BIG 12

Kansas vs TCU – Jayhawks won last year! Any time Kansas wins, it’s a major story. They won 27-26 at home.

PAC-12

This weekend in the PAC-12 is going to be awesome. Arizona State plays Cal Friday night. ASU was ranked last week before losing to Colorado and Cal is an impressive 4-0. Utah and Washington State are both coming off conference losses and can’t afford another if they seriously want to compete for championship. USC and Washington loser takes a bit hit in the battle for PAC-12 title too. UCLA vs Arizona should involves lots and lots of fireworks and points. Stanford plays Oregon State – Beavers haven’t beaten the Cardinal since 2009.

USC vs Washington

Steve Sarkisian was an offensive assistant at USC from 2005-2008 before becoming Washington Head Coach in 2009. He stayed until 2013, when he left to take the USC job (replacing his old pal Lane Kiffin). His departure opened the door for Chris Peterson to finally leave Boise State and make the move to Seattle and it’s left USC, basically, in turmoil ever since. Sark was 34-29 at Washington and just 12-6 at USC.
