Happy Football Friday!! NFL week 12 kicked off on Thursday with the Texans beating the Colts and college football week 13 kicked off during the week with a little #MACtion.

Check out some fun tidbits, historical info and more on all of this weekend’s NFL games and key college games.

Primetime Games

Packers vs 49ers
In 2013, the 3-13 Redskins coaching staff included current 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan as offensive coordinator and current Packers coach Matt LaFleur as QB coach (also Sean McVay as TE coach). Two young offensive gurus face off with first place NFC teams, whose specialty is their defenses.

Ravens vs Rams
This is only the 7th time ever these two teams have met. Ravens won the last three (2015, 2011, 2007). Rams last win came in 2003, when the Rams were led by Marc Bulger, Marshall Faulk, Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt.

Cowboys vs Patriots
These teams have met 12 teams since 1971. Cowboys won the first 7 meetings, but the Patriots have won all 5 games since 1999. Last Cowboys win over Patriots was 1996, they won 12-6 in a game that included 6 field goals and 0 touchdowns. In 1987, they won 23-17 in overtime. The last time the Cowboys scored a touchdown and won in regulation was 1984.

Sunday afternoon’s slate

Bucs vs Falcons
In 2013, Florida State Seminoles went 14-0 and won the National Championship. Their QB was Jameis Winston, who won the Heisman. The current Bucs QB completed 67% of his passes, threw for 4,057 yards, 40 touchdowns and ONLY 10 interceptions (quite the accomplishment given his NFL run of INTs). Current Falcons RB Devonta Freeman, who is not expected to play Sunday, led that FSU team in rushing with 1,016 yards and 14 TD.

Broncos vs Bills
Bills beat the Broncos in the 1992 AFC Championship Game to advance to Super Bowl XXVI (where they lost to the Redskins.

After a scoreless first half, John Elway threw a pick six in the third quarter. The Broncos only touchdown of the game came on a 3 yard run by backup QB Gary Kubiak. Bills won 10-7.

Giants vs Bears
The last time Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky faced Giants QB Daniel Jones was when they were rivals at UNC and Duke, respectively. In 2016, Duke beat UNC 28-27. Jones threw for 240 yards and a TD and ran for 94 yards and 2 TDs. Trubisky threw for 297 yards, 3 TD and 2 INT.

Steelers vs Bengals
The Steelers 27-3 week 4 victory over the Bengals was their 9th straight victory in this series. Last time Bengals won was November 2015.

Dolphins vs Browns
Dolphins drafted WR Jarvis Landry in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. In 4 years, he caught 400 passes and 22 TDs. He was traded to the Browns after the 2017 season and has 7 TDs in 26 games.

Also, before they were GOATs, they were….

Panthers vs Saints
Panthers beat the Saints in week 17 last year. It didn’t mean much, because New Orleans sat many of their stats, but QB Kyle Allen did play so he got valuable experience against the Saints. Allen threw for 228 yards and 2 TDs and did not turn the ball over.

Raiders vs Jets
Raiders won in 2017 and 2015 in Oakland, but the Jets won the last meeting at MetLife Stadium in 2014 in week 1. Geno Smith started at QB for the Jets and RB Chris Johnson caught a touchdown pass and ran for 68 yards. Chris Ivory led the team with 102 yards rushing and Eric Decker led the team with 74 yards receiving.

Lions vs Redskins
Lions have won the last 4 meetings aganst the Redskins (2016, 2013, 2010, 2009). Redskins last win came in 2008. The Lions finished that season 0-16, coached by current Cowboys defensive assistant Rod Marinelli.

Lions offense consisted of QB Dan Orlovsky, RB Rudi Johnson, WR Calvin Johnson. Redskins offense was QB Jason Campbell, RBs Clinton Portis and Shaun Alexander, WR Santana Moss and TE Chris Cooley

Seahawks vs Eagles
Seahawks have won 4 in a row against the Eagles (2017, 2016, 2014, 2011). Of those 4 losses, only one game was in Philly. 1989 is the last time Eagles beat Seahawks in Philly. In the 13 games played since (and included 1989), only 5 have been played in Philly, where Sunday’s game takes place.

Jaguars vs Titans
In 2015, Titans RB Derrick Henry won the Heisman Trophy while at Alabama. His Crimson Tide beat LSU 30-16, in a game where Henry ran for 210 yards and 3 TD. The RB for LSU was current Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette, who was held to 31 yards on 19 carries and scored 1 TD.

Big Ten

The biggest game of the weekend is Ohio State vs Penn State at noon on Fox on Saturday. Ohio State has won 6 of the last 7 against Penn State. The winner will win the Big Ten East and likely play the winner of next week’s Wisconsin vs Minnesota game in the Big Ten Championship.

Indiana, who was ranked in the AP poll last week for the first time in 30 years, has lost 23 consecutive games to Michigan. They are just 9-58 all-time vs Michigan.

Big 12

Baylor and Oklahoma are each two games up on the rest of the Big 12 and are in the driver’s seat to play a rematch of last week’s classic in two weeks in the Big 12 title game.

This week, Baylor hosts Texas and Oklahoma hosts TCU.

Here is a list of teams SEC schools are playing this week – West Carolina, Samford, Tennessee-Martin, East Tennessee State, Abilene Christian, and Arkansas.

The most notable thing about the SEC is that despite being in the SEC since 2012, Texas A&M is playing Georgia for the first time. The last time these two teams met, Georgia won 44-20 in the 2009 Independence Bowl.

Oregon and Utah are both very much in the mix to make the Playoffs as the 4th seed. Both teams travel to the state of Arizona on Saturday.

Oregon plays at Arizona State, who has lost three in a row.
Utah plays at Arizona, who has lost five in a row.

USC plays UCLA in a huge game. Bruins need to win out (USC and Cal next week) to make a bowl game. This is USC’s final game, so a win puts them at 8-4. Given that they were ranked #23 in last week’s playoff poll, they would likely stay there, which helps build Oregon’s playoff resume, given their recent blowout win over the Trojans.

Cincinnati hosts Temple, whom they haven’t beaten since 2014. If the Bearcats win they clinch a spot in the AAC Championship Game for the first time.

Who they play in that game might be SMU or Navy. The loser of this game is virtually out of contention in the AAC West, while the winner would be AAC West champs IF Cincinnati beats Memphis next week.

The loser of Virginia Tech vs Pitt is out of the ACC Coastal race. If Pitt wins, a VT win over Virginia and Pitt win over Boston College, would mean Pitt wins the Coastal for a second straight season. If Virginia Tech wins, next week’s game vs Virginia is a Coastal Championship game.

Duke needs to win final two games to qualify for a bowl game. They play Wake Forest, who at 7-3, are in the mix for the ACC’s Orange Bowl bid.

Mountain West

Boise State is a 2-loss AAC Champion away from playing in the Cotton Bowl. While they need help, they also need to help themselves. Boise State plays at Utah State. Broncos have won 15 of 16 games against the Aggies. The lone USU win came in 2015. Boise State has scored 30 or more points in 14 of those 15 wins, 40 points 9 times, 50 points 5 times, and 60 points twice.

USU QB Jordan Love is excellent and the game is in Logan, Utah. Boise State hasn’t played great of late, so this could be an upset spot.

Sun Belt

Like Boise State, Appalachian State has a shot at the Cotton Bowl. They need a 2-loss AAC Champ and 2-loss Boise State (and maybe more). The 9-1 Mountaineers host 3-7 Texas State.

Conference USA

Louisiana Tech‘s 8 game winning streak was snapped last week in a loss against Marshall. They play at UAB and need a win to remain in control of C-USA West. LT is 5-1, while UAB is 4-2. Southern Miss is also in the mix at 5-1.
