MLB FINAL FOUR IS SET

The 2018 MLB final four is set. The four teams with the best records (excluding the Cubs who didn’t make it out of the Wild Card game) are each in the League Championship Series – Astros vs Red Sox and Dodgers vs Brewers.

The Red Sox beat the Yankees on Tuesday to win the series 3-1, but it took some late game dramatics to do it. They won the game 4-3, with the Yankees stranding two base runners and a last play challenge. Red Sox and Astros combine for 211 wins (second most of all-time). This series should be great.

In the NL, it’s been a while since the Brewers have lost. It’ll be three weeks when they take the field against the Dodgers.

ELI MANNING vs LIL WAYNE – Who You Got?

This is the feud you never knew you needed, isn’t it? Lil Wayne joined Odell Beckham for an interview with ESPN this past weekend and which Beckham threw several Giants team members and coaches under the bus and “Weezy” sat along side him agreeing and nodding.

In response to Beckham’s comments, Eli Manning claimed he doesn’t “watch” Lil Wayne. Lil Wayne said “You ain’t got to watch…but you could listen. You probably need to the way you’ve been playing”.

On Tuesday morning during the Giants workout on the field, Lil Wayne’s Uproar was blasting through the speakers. Can’t wait to see where this story goes next.

GIANT MISTAKE GETS CUT

The NY Giants drafted OT Erick Flowers with the 9th pick in the 2015 NFL draft. One pick later at #10, the Rams chose RB Todd Gurley. On Tuesday, the Giants finally rid themselves of Flowers, who had become a huge liability and was benched earlier this season. Things don’t always work out so simply and straight forward. But imagine if the Giants had Gurley and Beckham? There would be no need for Saquon Barkley and they could have drafted their QB of the future in 2018 (Sam Darnold?). Instead the Giants have Barkley (not a bad consolation) and must wait until 2019 to find their QB of the future – though I would take Darnold over either one of Justin Herbert or Drew Lock.

IT’s ALWAYS JIMMER TIME

The Rockets faced Shanhai Sharks in pre-season action on Tuesday and Jimmer Fredette scored 41 points for the Sharks on 16-40 shooting. The fact that he has never gotten a fair shake in the NBA or been able to run with the opportunities given to him has always been mind boggling. If you are into plus/minuses, Fredette was a -42. Luis Scola is also on this team.

James Harden tried to match Fredette and is clearly ready for the regular season, scoring 37 points on a much more efficient 13-18 (9-14 from three). Rockets star of the night was undrafted free agent Gary Clark, who scored 16 points on 4-6 3PT shooting.

Meanwhile, James Harden, in addition to shooting the lights out, just wants to have fun. Carmelo Anthony? He just wants his paycheck…

“FUN BELT” RECAP

Appalachian State beat Arkansas State 35-9 in a key conference road win. App St clearly looks like the class of the Sun Belt in 2018. They are now 4-1 and in those four wins they have outscored opponents 204-32. The one loss came week 1 in overtime at Penn State. QB Zac Thomas has had a strong start, completing 62.5% of his passes and just 3 INT on 112 attempts. It’s quite possible they run the table, at least up until Thanksgiving weekend, setting up an epic Sun Belt showdown with Troy.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

Only action tonight are three NHL games, which includes a Stanley Cup rematch on NBC Sports Net – Vegas visits the Capitals.
