For the season, I am picking winners straight up with 60% accuracy (62-42-2).
Before jumping into my week 8 predictions, here are 5 bold predictions for the week:
- Browns rookie RB Nick Chubb gets his first 100 yard rushing game as a starter (2nd of the season)
- Bears RB Tarik Cohen will have 10 catches against the Jets
- Colts QB Andrew Luck throws for 4TDs in 3rd straight game
- Texans QB Deshaun Watson will score 2 TDs rushing
- Packers vs Rams will surpass 65 points total
Now for my week 8 picks:
Texans vs Dolphins (Thursday)
The Texans have won 4 in a row after an 0-3 start and have started to click on both sides of the ball. Deshaun Watson is playing well despite his injuries even on a short week, I don’t see the Texans having too many issues with a banged up Dolphins team.
Lance’s Pick: Texans
Eagles vs Jaguars (London)
The Jaguars are just making too many mistakes. When I say Jaguars I mean Blake Bortles primarily. You can’t make that many mistakes and expect to win games, even with a defense like the one Jacksonville has.
Lance’s Pick: Eagles
Giants vs Redskins
I’m going with the upset here! The Giants were close against Atlanta on Monday Night Football. They did just trade away Eli Apple and Damon “Snacks” Harrison for a little more than nothing, but I think they pull one out in front of the home crowd this weekend with Saquon Barkley leading the way on offense.
Browns vs Steelers
The Browns know they missed a big chance to beat the Steelers in Week 1. They won’t let that opportunity pass them by again, even on the road. The Steelers are coming off a bye and should be well-rested but I am going with the more physical team in Cleveland to win a game that should be a “slobber-knocker”.
Seahawks vs Lions
The Seahawks have been getting healthier and improving on the field. The Lions continue to be a mediocre team that plays inconsistent. Matthew Stafford puts up big numbers but Russell Wilson finds ways to the win games.
Lance’s Pick: Seahawks
Chiefs vs Broncos
The Chiefs are starting to look like they have a defense that can play. That means trouble for the rest of the league and specifically for the Broncos this week. Unlike last week when the Broncos had a walk-through-the-park kind of game with the Cardinals, the Chiefs will prevail here.
Panthers vs Ravens
Justin Tucker missed an extra point for the first time in his career last week against the Saints at home. The Panthers managed a game winning drive with a TD catch by Greg Olsen to beat the defending champions. This should be a very close game and a very physical game as well and I am going to give the edge to the home team in this one.
Bears vs Jets
The Bears have now lost 2 in a row, after a 3-1 start. They need to win at home this week against the Jets to keep pace in the NFC North. They should be able to move the ball and also get pressure on rookie QB Sam Darnold. I expect a win for Da Bears in front of the home crowd.
Bengals vs Bucs
The Bengals were embarrassed last week against the Chiefs, only managing 10 points. Luckily for them, they are playing the 29th ranked defense in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week. I expect the Bengals to score with ease and make enough plays against Jameis Winston to get the win.
Raiders vs Colts
Following the recent trade of Amari Cooper and rumors swirling around other Raiders players, the franchise has just one thing on their mind and that is not winning this game or this year or next – it’s VEGAS!
49ers vs Cardinals
The Niners, despite being hit by injuries, continue to play tough on defense and manage to move the ball on offense. The latest Shanny success story on offense is 4th string running back Raheem Mostert, who has emerged as their top offensive threat. With CB Patrick Peterson demanding a trade out of Arizona and SF being the tougher team, I will take the road team in this match-up of sub-par teams.
Packers vs Rams
Hi Aaron Rodgers, have you met Aaron Donald? Well if he hasn’t yet, he will be seeing a lot of him on Sunday the way that Green Bay line looks. Rams offense is unstoppable, so if Rodgers can’t score every single possession, the Packers won’t win. As noted above in my bold predictions, this game will exceed the 65 points total.
Vikings vs Saints
The Saints are on a real high right now after winning on the road in Baltimore last week against a very stout defense. They get another opportunity this week to prove me wrong, but the Minnesota offense has arguably the best wide receiver duo in the league and I expect them to make enough plays to pull off the win.
Patriots vs Bills (Monday)
Derek Anderson makes his second consecutive start for the Bills. This game doesn’t need any more explanation than that.
